“Die Frage nach den von ihr titulierten „Lebensgeistern und ihre Quellen“ thematisiert Kim Okura in verschiedenen Werkzyklen und subsumiert sie unter dem Titel C.O.W.S (Can Our World Survive). Ihre Serie NOBONOHO | No Book – No Honey seziert die Welt der Taschenbücher – besonders jene des SciFi-Genre -, die als Text – Bild – Kombinationen die Phantasie der Leser auf besondere Weise beflügeln und möglicherweise auch deren weiteres Leben und Denken inspirieren.
Der Titel der Serie reflektiert den Spruch: Gehe nie mit jemanden ins Bett dessen TV größer ist als sein Bücherschrank. Wobei die Künstlerin dieses Zitat aber auch in Zeiten des digitalen Lesens (e-books) als sehr spannend empfindet.
Da Kim Okura aber diese Taschenbücher nicht als klassische „ready mades“ missverstanden wissen möchte, gibt sie diesen gebrauchten, alten Heften ein sogenanntes zweites Leben und überarbeitet sie künstlerisch. In Analogie des Alters der Taschenbücher konzentriert sich Kim Okura auf die japanische Technik der Goldreparatur – das Kintsugi – wenn sie mit Gold, aber auch mit Silber oder Bronze Einzelheiten künstlerisch heraushebt, mit schwarzem Marker überarbeitet und ihre Symbol behafteten „Okuräen“ einsetzt. Die Künstlerin signiert und paginiert die Bücher, platziert ihr Siegel SFO (Spiritus Faber Okura) und den für sie als treibenden Lebensgeist interpretierten roten Faden auf das Cover. Somit wird das Werk eines anderen Autors und Grafikers durch ihre künstlerische Überarbeitung mit „neuem“ Leben als „Reborn Object“ mit einer weiteren Dimension der Bedeutung bedacht.”

Kim Okura addresses the question of the „spirits of life and their sources“ she dubbed in various collections and subsumes them under the title C.O.W.S. (Can Our World Survive). Her NOBONOHO | No Book – No Honey series analyses the world of paperbacks – especially those of the Sci-Fi genre – which, as amalgamations of text and images, inspire the readers‘ imagination in a special way and possibly also inspire their further life and thinking.
The title of the series reflects on the saying: Never go to bed with someone whose TV is larger than their bookcase. Whereby the artist finds this quote very exciting even in the age of digital reading (e-books).
Since Kim Okura does not want these paperbacks to be misunderstood as classic „readymades“, she gives these used, old books a so-called second life and reworks them artistically. By analogy with the age of paperback books, Kim Okura concentrates on the Japanese technique of repairing gold – Kintsugi – when she artistically emphasises details with gold, but also with silver or bronze, reworks them with a black marker and inserts her symbolised „Okurae“. The artist signs and paginates the books, places her SFO (Spiritus Faber Okura) seal and the red thread that she interprets as a driving spirit of life on the cover. Thus, the work of another author and graphic artist is given a further dimension of meaning by being artistically reworked with „new“ life as a „reborn object“.
